Packaging: FedEx Ground had apparently opened the product packaging, then made an abysmal attempt to seal it. I believe this was due to the button battery that comes with the optic, although I can’t say for sure. BTO looms like they did a great job padding the optic from damage through rough handling during shipping.
Product: All of the contents in the product package were in mint condition, including the optic. The open-box is indistinguishable from a sealed, brand new product. The lenses on the optic did not have dust, or fingerprints on them. Frankly, this was absolutely a glance-and-return, not a floor model or blemished open-box.
Optic
Lens & illumination: The glass is remarkable. The 1x FOV is definitely not bigger than 110′, although the clarity is fantastic. Not quite daylight bright at max power. After having swapped LPVO batteries up to once a week (ongoing shooting drills), I decided the illumination will be limited to low-light environments. The technology simply isn’t there for battery life longevity on LPVOs yet. The buttons for adjusting the illumination can be an issue if mounted on a duty gun, as they are not protected from snags and other contact if the rifle is on a sling.
The 6x looks crisp and has a slight edge in resolution compared to the Vortex Razor 1-6x Gen II-E. Where the 1x on the Razor shines, the resolution on the Vudu’s 6x seems to be a huge advantage. No noticeable chromatic aberration and diopter is a “set it and forget it” ordeal.
Remaining features
Finish: Top notch. Robust and abrasion resistant. Has a nicer finish than my Leupolds. Less semi-gloss and more of a true matte coating.
Turrets: The turrets feel trustworthy. There’s slight mush behind the adjustment although the clicks are distinct and easy to perceive through fingertips as well as audibly. The largest caveat of this optic is how the turrets are not capped and do not possess a locking ring. They are exposed and will absolutely become adjusted if, again, are used on a duty optic.
