These have a 0.0645″ gas port. The standard HDSI 12.5″ barrel has a 0.0625″ port which is optimized for suppressors and M855A1 ammo.
The large port barrels are better suited for a wide variety of ammo and non-suppressed use.

Hodge Defense 12.5″ 5.56mm Carbine Barrel is the barrel used on the Hodge AU Mod 2 rifles. Incorporating FN’s proprietary steel (the same steel used in the M249 saw), these barrels were designed and made to Jim’s specifications and optimized for the M855A1 EPR ammunition, which is far more demanding on barrels.
M855A1 rounds operate at about 62,000 PSI (over 55k from M855) and are designed to perform to an expected standard of terminal performance and barrier penetration over a broader range of engagement distances, previous ammunition was criticized for being unstable and not providing consistent performance outside of a narrow optimal range.
The AU Mod 2 is optimized for running M855A1 EPR, and this Hodge barrel is at the heart of the system.

I absolutely love this barrel. It runs superbly unsuppressed and even with the “large port” I get consistent 2:30 – 3:00 ejection running suppressed with my Sandman S and an H2. 1500 rounds in so far and I am very pleased. I’ll be picking up another in 14.5 flavor as soon as I can!

It’s FN Hodge! Get it?? But in all seriousness is shoot mostly unsuppressed. From what I hear and read this shoots beautifully suppressed anyway. Keeping an eye out for the smaller port though because options are nice.
