Hodge Defense 16″ 5.56mm Carbine Barrel is the barrel used on the Hodge AU Mod 2 rifles. Incorporating FN’s proprietary steel (the same steel used in the M249 saw), these barrels were designed and made to Jim’s specifications and optimized for the  M855A1 EPR ammunition, which is far more demanding on barrels.

M855A1 rounds operate at about 62,000 PSI (over 55k from M855) and are designed to perform to an expected standard of terminal performance and barrier penetration over a broader range of engagement distances, previous ammunition was criticized for being unstable and not providing consistent performance outside of a narrow optimal range.

The AU Mod 2 is optimized for running M855A1 EPR, and this Hodge barrel is at the heart of the system.

    Love the hodge barrels

When I drink through this straw, everything has a strange metallic taste to it. I will be going back to plastic straws.

However, this seems to fit really nice into my FCD URFv2 and can handle high pressure micro explosions that push a projectile really well. I was between this or a Centurion and was talked into this barrel. I have no regerts.

  3. John Miller (verified owner)

Good barrel, well gassed, gauged at .072 as stated, plenty accurat, about 1MOA with good match ammo.

  4. PNWkg (verified owner)

Mine were really tight in bcm uppers, I needed to heat the upper and freeze the barrel to install. They’ve shot great, as a lefty I’ve experienced low gas to the face with surefire Rc and vltor A5.

Probably more money than you need to spend on a barrel, but it is well gassed, accurate and I know folks with 40k+ on these barrels before they started to open up.

Most folks are gonna be fine, and maybe better off, with a Centurion or Criterion.
