The Magpul CTR (Compact/Type Restricted) – Mil-Spec model is a drop-in replacement buttstock for AR15 / M16 carbines using Mil-Spec sized receiver extension tubes. Designed for light, fast action, the streamlined A-frame profile avoids snagging and shields the release latch to prevent accidental activation.
The CTR also features a supplemental friction lock system that minimizes excessive stock movement for enhanced weapon stability and an ambidextrous QD sling mount that will accept any push-button sling swivel. The Mil-Spec model includes a standard 0.3″ thick rubber butt-pad, which provides positive shoulder purchase to prevent slippage even with body armor or modular gear.

I’ve always had good experiences with BTO and Magpul. I’ve bought at couple other of their stocks and this one is almost the Goldilocks “just right” version. Sure, I have the Magpul ACS the B5 SOPMOD (both great stocks for battery or breath mint storage) but this works for what I need. Options to tie on a sling or use a quick-detach swivel from either side, so no need to buy a mount (some stocks either include one that you have to install yourself or they’re only on one side). Since I’m in CA, I need to makes this “fixed”, so there are products that allow me to accomplish this without marring the stock. Yes, I know, move out of CA to a Free State and not deal with the B.S. stuff in CA, but that’s not an option.
The description of “minimizing” wobble is correct; this stock does not eliminate wobble, at least not on my FCD RE5F receiver extension (this is also mentioned on step 3 of on their instruction sheet). Oh, I forgot to mention that Mapul merchandise usually has some type of instruction sheet or guide, this has the use/installation instructions as well as yellow ‘warning card” that shows the differences between mil-spec and commercial receiver extensions and the outer sleeve on the box with state it’s for mil-spec extensions.
It’s Magpul, so it’ll work and come in colors for your fashionistas and 50 Shades of FDE folks. Just buy it, you know you want one.
