We use mil-spec Matte black hard-coat anodized Mil 8625 Type 3 Class 2 finish.
Features:
- Forged from 7075-T6 aluminum
- Machine finished to improve tolerances
- Matte black hardcoat anodized finish
- Loyal 9 logo on magwell
- Three position selector markings
- Compatible with Mil-Spec parts and receivers
The name Loyal 9 was chosen for this lower receiver as a way to show support for LEOs, first responders, and members of the military that put their lives on the line every day to keep people safe. The Loyal 9 name comes from a secret patriot political organization formed in 1765 and likely influenced the larger Sons of Liberty organization.

Great option for any build. Especially if paired with a SOLGW upper.

Prior to purchasing this lower I had run across a SOLGW East India complete 10.5 upper on sale. I had no intersect in a 10.5” barrel but the sale price was good so I bought the upper for the parts other than the barrel. I was familiar with SOLGW prior to the purchase but it was just another brand in so far as I was concerned. I had built with and also worked on several different brands of AR15 previously. When I actually began the disassembly process I was very impressed. Fit, finish and tolerance of the parts were the best I had ever seen. I wound up not using the upper on the firearm (okay the lower receiver that the ATF identifies as a firearm) but instead saving it for a premium build.
I wanted to stay with SOLGW for the lower as I had seen the propaganda put out by the companies founder. Once the upper and lower receivers are mated even if the barrel is attached you should be able to turn the rifle upside down and hold it by the lower and have both sections stay together even without the pins in place (spoiler, you really can do just that, it takes a little work to separate the upper and lower but with my sample size of one pair no tools are needed). I went with BCM for the barrel because I wanted a mid length light weight CHF chrome lined barrel which SOLGW does not sell. SOLGW also does not sell a .625 diameter gas block so that part was BCM as was the BCG. SOLGW does make a .750 diameter gas block which I have used on another build and was also very impressed with. The LPK I used was also SOLGW, specifically the blaster starter kit (no fire control group as I went with an ALG ACT).
Getting back to the lower I wanted the Loyal 9 specifically as it has the more traditional markings versus the Angry Patriot or some of the other SOLGW lowers (this was just in case I ever decided to use it as a duty rifle, something that really isn’t likely as it involves armory inspections and quite frankly I already have a duty rifle with many years of wear on it/rounds through it and there isn’t much point in switching this late in my career). Big Tex Ordinance was one of only two retailers who had the Loyal 9 in stock. The purchase was hassle free and I got an email the next morning indicating that they already had a file copy of my FFL’s license so no additional steps were required on my part. I believe the lower was in my FFL’s possession within 4 days of my placing the order keeping in mind that the order was placed after business hours and probably on a Sunday. I was somewhat surprised at how fast the lower was shipped.
The only very minor issue I saw was that the manufacturer as listed on the lower is also Loyal 9 (in other words both model and manufacture are Loyal 9) so it does not read Sons of Liberty Gun Works. After doing some online research Loyal 9 is in fact SOLGW. Where I am going with this is that if you want the manufacture to read SOLGW then maybe stick with a different lower such as the Angry Patriot. The markings are apparently something SOLGW does more for the LEO market should the gun ever be taken as evidence in a shooting, either way it is still all SOLGW.
Assembly was very much like any other assembly although for the upper the barrel does have to be thermal fit (nothing to be afraid of for those who have not done the process, it means you give the threaded side of the upper a few turns over a propane torch and the quickly slide it onto the barrel before it has time to cool, JP Enterprises has an on line video to walk you through the process). In spite the very tight upper to lower fit the two open just fine when you push out the pivot pin. As there is no play (that annoying wiggle) between the upper and lower I anticipated more of an issue for routine maintenance but really there wasn’t any.
In summary I would highly recommend SOLGW uppers, lowers and parts kits for your next (or possibly first) build. I would also, based on my most recent experience recommend Big Tex Ordinance, even with the FFL transfer the process was fast, easy and pain free.

Another quality piece form SOLGW. The anodizing finish is durable and machining is great.
