Winner – do all EDC light

I have a lot of flashlights, I carry a handheld light every day and use it every day for admin tasks, mostly walking and picking up after my dogs but all kinds of other admin tasks too. I do not normally carry a WML on my firearm. I bought the original Stilleto Pro on a whim about four years ago, honestly not expecting to like it all that much (I thought the design looked weird), to my surprised it edged out other lights for pocket space – the flat profile really does carry easier, and it’s one of the only EDC flashlights with a decent pocket clip. I do wish the pocket clip was a little more discrete / low profile (I prefer it look like a pen in my pocket, many people mistake the Stilleto for a pocketknife) but at least it is a very secure and functional pocket flip while not being so secure as to rip up your pants – most EDC flashlights including from Surefire have terrible pocket clips, the Stilleto fixes this. Additionally, the original Pro had a nice wide beam pattern perfect for EDC tasts, plenty of brightness, and a great user interface where the side button can cycle through the modes low to high which is perfect for EDC tasks leaving the tail button for instant high for “tactical” use. The cycle order is user programmable but the way it comes from the factory of low-high on the side and high only on the tail is perfect. Finally, I find chargeability via USB much more convenient than removable batteries – yes this eliminates the ability to swap to a fresh battery immediately but honestly if I’m going to carry an extra battery I will just bring an extra light. The only downside to the original Pro was it’s wide beam pattern was not ideal for tactical use. In short it is an excellent EDC light and mediocre tactical light. For awhile I would carry both the Stilleto Pro for EDC tasks and a modlight PLH-V2 18650 for a tactical light, but I stopped doing that as it was annoying to carry the second light and honestly the Pro would be good enough I think.

The Pro II makes this as good of a tactical handheld as something like a PLH-V2 while only slightly compromising EDC useability, the beam pattern is still wide enough for EDC use though not as even as the original Pro – the Pro II has a hotspot that comes with the candela where the original Pro is very even throughout its breadth. The light is more white/blue with the Pro II and more yellow with the original Pro. The long range throw is almost as good as a PLH-V2, testing side by side in the dark last night they are comparable, while the Pro II has a much wider area of illumination for EDC/admin use. It still has all the things that made the original pro great to EDC – fits great in the pocket (only slightly wider/longer and about 1/2oz heavier), USB chargeable and upgraded to USB-C, very functional pocket clip (still wish it was more discrete but not bad), best user interface on the market for a dual purpose light w/ the side button for admin use and tail for tactical. IMO the original Pro is best in class for EDC work and mediocre for tactical use. The Pro II is still very good for EDC use and also very good for tactical (comparable to a PLH-V2, IMO, while much better for EDC). I think overall it’s currently best in class for one do all light. If you normally carry a WML or you carry two handhelds (say one duty and one admin), the Pro is still a great option if you don’t need the throw that the Pro II has.
