Big Tex Vs Big Tech: The Battle To Reach Our Customers

Social Media

At Big Tex Ordnance, we’ve always relied on different social media platforms to grow and promote our business. Ike & Maddi spent years posting to Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit, building a loyal following. In recent years we have been experiencing increasing difficulties with our social media presence. Major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram (Meta), YouTube, and Google have been limiting the exposure of firearms-related content. Instagram outright lets you know that content will only be shown to current followers, stifling our growth. Facebook actively monitors posts, sometimes removing posts from years in the past. A few months ago our almost 7000 member Facebook group was “Zucced” overnight. This has significantly impacted our ability to reach our loyal customers and community through these channels.

Another Presidential Election cycle

Enter 2024 and another presidential election cycle. We’ve noticed an increase of reduced visibility for our posts on Facebook and Instagram, even to our followers. These platforms have implemented policies that often result in the suppression of firearms-related content, even when it complies with their guidelines.

It’s worth noting that this increase in censorship appears to coincide with the approach of the upcoming presidential election. Historically, we’ve observed that social media platforms tend to tighten their content policies during election years, often affecting topics they deem controversial – including firearms. This election-year ramp-up of censorship adds another layer of complexity to our already challenging social media landscape.

One of the most recent developments involved our Google Business account. It prevented our own employees from watching our videos due to restricted content settings. One thing you don’t want to appear to be doing in the firearm space is marketing to people under the age of 18, so all of our new content was marked to restrict our content for those older than 18. After some research and settings tweaking, we were able to watch our own content, but it wasn’t something that was super simple to find.

YouTube Challenges

The situation with YouTube has become particularly difficult. Due to increasingly stringent policies regarding firearms content, we’ve had to take steps to ensure our Big Tex Ordnance Podcast will continue to be available to viewers in the event of a total ban. We’ve started a new YouTube channel (please subscribe here) that doesn’t feature any gun-specific content. This channel allows us to maintain a presence on the platform and post our podcast, but it significantly limits what we can share with our audience and creates more work in the long run.

Exploring Alternatives

In response to these challenges, we’ve begun exploring alternative platforms. One such platform is Rumble, which currently offers more flexibility for firearms-related content. We’re hopeful that these alternative platforms will allow us to share information more freely and connect with our community more effectively, especially as we approach the election period when mainstream social media censorship may intensify.

These changes in social media policies, potentially exacerbated by election-year concerns, affect how you, our customers, can stay informed about our products and services. To ensure you don’t miss important updates

  1. Follow us on multiple platforms to increase your chances of seeing our content.
  2. Check our website regularly for the most up-to-date information.
  3. Consider signing up for our email newsletter for direct communications.
  4. Add our Email Addresses to your contacts and mark us as favorites.
  5. Engage with our posts when you see them, as this can help improve their visibility.
  6. Look for us on alternative platforms where we may have a stronger presence.

Our Commitment

Despite these challenges and the potential for increased censorship as we approach the election, Big Tex Ordnance remains committed to providing quality firearms and accessories to our customers. We will continue to adapt to the changing digital landscape while maintaining our dedication to serving the firearms community.

Thank you for your continued support of Big Tex Ordnance. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these complex issues in an increasingly challenging digital environment.
